Strategic Outcome

Transformed a static educational resource into an interactive, multi-platform digital product that actively scales the organization's ability to support user autonomy.

L'archipel de l'avenir, a non-profit dedicated to helping young adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) achieve autonomy, faced a critical challenge. Their core pedagogical resource was a static PDF, which was proving insufficient to meet the dynamic needs of their users. They needed a digital solution that was engaging, intuitive, and truly supportive. They turned to us to design a digital product that could rise to the challenge.

Challenge.

Beyond the Limits of a PDF

The organization's goal was to provide a tool that could actively assist young adults in their journey toward independence. A simple PDF was falling short—it lacked interactivity, couldn't adapt to individual user needs, and failed to provide the rich, guided experience necessary for effective learning and support. The key challenge was to translate their proven pedagogical approach into a digital platform that was both powerful and accessible.

Solution

A Research-Driven, User-Centered Approach

Our process was rooted in deep empathy and rigorous research to ensure the final product would be genuinely useful for the users, their families, and caregivers.

  1. Evidence-Based Foundation: We began with a comprehensive literature review to understand the best practices in software design for individuals with ASD. This ensured our design choices were informed by established science from the very start.

  2. Deep User Understanding: We conducted nearly 13 hours of in-depth interviews with 12 young adults, 3 parents, and 2 caregivers. This direct engagement was crucial for identifying the primary bottlenecks and understanding what features would deliver the most value.

  3. Strategic Product Design: Led by our product strategist, Mikael, we synthesized this research into a clear product vision. We developed detailed story maps, benchmarked against best-in-class applications, and created wireframes for all key use cases.

  4. Seamless Multi-Platform Experience: Using Figma, we designed and prototyped a consistent, intuitive experience that works flawlessly across desktops, tablets, and smartphones, ensuring users have access to support whenever and wherever they need it.

Result

A Digital Platform for Independence

We delivered a fully-realized digital product that transformed L'archipel de l'avenir's ability to support its community. The new platform provides an interactive, user-friendly experience that actively helps young adults develop skills for autonomy. The success of the initial project in 2022 led to a follow-up product audit in 2024, demonstrating a commitment to long-term value and continuous improvement.
